We are looking for motivated Bioinformatician interested in image analysis, next generation sequencing and systems biology approaches.

The main goal of the research is to study how drugs combine to affect the clearance and the host invasion capacity of pathogen bacteria by integrating high-throughput drug interaction screens, high content screening microscopy, next-generation sequencing and metagenomic approaches.

Responsibilities and tasks:

The ideal candidate will independently perform a variety of bioinformatics analyses related to high-throughput drug interaction screens, high content screening microscopy and next generation sequencing data (Illumina). Being up to date with the international literature on the current research topic. Participation in the preparation of professional publications and grant applications.

The successful candidate has:

  • MSc in bioinformatics, biology, medical sciences, mathematics, computer science or equivalent.

  • Research experience in bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience in programming using R, Python or MATLAB and Linux command line.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Experience in statistical methods, image analysis, de novo assembly, mapping of DNA sequence reads to target genomes, clustering of DNA sequencing data, SNP calling, annotation of genomic information and metagenome data analysis is an advantage.

What we offer:

  • Participation in top-level international research with Viktória Lázár. The labs are hosted in the Synthetic and Systems Biology Unit of the Biological Research Centre which is a Centre of Excellence of the European Union. In addition, the candidate will also be affiliated with the Hungarian Centre of Excellence for Molecular Medicine, a partner institute of EMBL (HCEMM-EMBL). Szeged is a thriving university town with a large community of international students and affordable living costs.
